The Wash Day Experience | Long Time, No See

It’s been FOREVER since I’ve done a wash day post. The main reason why I stopped is that I do the same thing each week. I’m not sure about you but I found the content a bit boring.I did something slightly different this wash day. I wanted to try my hand at a braid-out. Since my natural hair is much longer now, I thought it may look different. Here’s how it went.

[1] Detangling – I detangled my hair in 4 sections using my wide-tooth comb and an afro pick. Detangling has been annoying lately because I don’t seem to get all the shed hair out with just a comb. I had better results with a paddle brush but mine is falling apart. 🙁

[2] Shampoo – I washed my hair twice with Crème of Nature Argan Oil Sulfate-Free Moisture and Shine Shampoo.

[3] Deep conditioning – I used the Crème of Nature Argan Oil Intensive Conditioning Treatment to deep condition. It was left on for about an hour without heat. I rinsed it out with cool water.

[4] Leave-ins and Styling – After drying my hair for a few minutes, I applied the African Naturalistas Leave-in Conditioner to each section and sealed with my oil mix (hemp seed and Jamaican Black Castor Oil. I put in 7 braids using the ORS Olive Oil Wrap/Set Mousse as a styler. I left the braids in for 2 days. I took them down and pinned it up to style it. Fin.

I noticed more definition at the roots. The ends were a bit hard to braid and it did not keep the braid-out shape. I didn’t want to wear it down because it looked funny. I think if I try this again, I may use smaller braids and curl it with a perm rod or a small flexi rod.

I was looking at some OLD Instagram posts and looking at all the products I used to use each wash day. This wash day I only used 6 products in total. Then, I wasn’t too sure what was working but my hair was growing. Now, I’ve been able to pinpoint what seems to work for me. I still like trying new products but I now have a better idea of what I like. Thank God for growth. 🙂

My natural roots seem to be coming in very well. I took some pictures of it and I didn’t realize how long it is. I’m really proud of myself for making it this far. 15 months isn’t easy. Sometimes, I think about ending the transition. However,  I set a target for myself and I plan to achieve it. I have less than 3 months to go. 🙂 I’m looking to try some different styles once I’m fully natural. Do you have any suggestions?

What natural hairstyles should I try?
