Wash Day | My New Growth is 6 Months Old

Wash Day My new growth is 6 month old

For this wash day post, not much has changed. My new growth is 6 months post relaxer! I pretty excited that I made it this far and I’m considering transitioning. How long has your longest relaxer stretch been?  Here’s how my wash day went . . .

(1) Pre-poo and detangling: My scalp was a bit itchy so I wanted to use neem oil. Neem oil is known to help with scalp issues, like dandruff. I think my scalp was itchy because I didn’t wash it for over two weeks. 🙁 For my scalp massage, I used neem oil, JBCO, and tea tree, peppermint, and eucalyptus essential oils. I sectioned my hair into four and applied warmed olive + coconut + hemp seed oil to my hair. I wrapped my hair with cling flim and used my heating cap for 30 minutes. I detangled my with wide tooth comb and braided my hair.

(2) Shampoo and tea rinse: On dry hair, I applied Dark and Lovely 3-in-1 Shampoo and rubbed it into my scalp. Then, I rinsed and washed scalp with the same shampoo. I shampooed a final time with Creme of Nature Argan Oil Shampoo. I did a tea rinse with green and black tea. I allowed it to stay on for 5 minutes and towel dried for 15 minutes.

(3) Deep conditioning and protein layering: I applied Aphogee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor. to my ends and my hairline. Then, I applied ORS Replenishing Conditioner mixed with olive + castor oil over my hair. I wrapped my hair with cling flim and used my heating cap for 30 minutes. and heat. Rinsed with cool water and did an ACV rinse. Is there a shortage of Heinz apple cider vinegar in Lagos? I can’t seem to find it and I had to use my Braggs vinegar which I prefer drinking.

(4) Leave-ins and styling: I used a t-shirt to dry for 15 minutes. Then, I applied my leave-ins (Giovanni Direct Leave-in and Aphogee Green Tea Restructurizer) and sealed with my oil mix. I took down each braid and roller set my hair. I used my hooded dryer on medium to high heat for an hour and left my hair to dry overnight. It seem like my hair takes longer to dry, especially my new growth. The next day, I moisturized and sealed my hair and put it back in my braids.

My hair is doing very well for 6 months post. My longest stretch was 6 months and it was rocky. With this stretch, I can definitely keep going. I am really curious to know how long my hair is but I’m not ready to flat iron. I’m saving that for December.

My scalp, on the other hand, is not too great. It’s only happening in the front part of my hair. I notice some flaking. 😯 I’m planning to use fenugreek (methi) powder for help. I hope it doesn’t add too much protein. Do you use ayurvedic powders and oils? What has your experience been like? It may also be an issue with exfoliating my scalp too. We’ll see how it goes next week.

How was your wash day?

The Wash Day Experience

  • Emprezz Abena

I just washed and deep conditioned and I’m hoping for a moisturized hair during the week.

    • Sounds like a simple wash day. I hope your hair stays moisturized too. Has harmattan started in Accra?

      • Emprezz Abena

        Yes, it has.

  • Wow! Look at that new growth! Congrats on the long stretch. I am actually transitioning and it’s been about a year and 7 months so far; not technically a relaxer stretch but kind of sort of. LOL! Can’t wait for your length check in December!

  • I see loads of new growth. Congrats on 6 months and good luck with your transistion

  • Congrats on 6 months post! My longest stretch before this one was 25 weeks.

  • wow!! that’s a lot of growth, well done. I’ll have a look through some posts to see your regime(n)
As for ayurvedic powders and oils I use Amla and shikakai powders. I abs love amla, it makes my hair soft and gives it a nice feeling. I have used neem powder but not as much because I know neem is very strong and many get a reaction from it. Just opening the pack makes my eyes water and nose tingle and run.
I used to use amla oil at the very start of my hhj but I found out about mineral, petroleum etc and the brand I used had it in there. I have been looking for one without it since.

    • Thanks for checking out my blog, Peechy. I was on an ayurvedic powder kick when I first started my hair journey. I used amla and brahmi powders then. The first time I tried it, it dried my hair out. I eventually got a good mixture. I’m not sure why I stopped. I think I wanted to reduce all the things I was doing to my hair. I used to use amla oil too but the mineral oil didn’t help either. I hope you find a better one.

  • Love your hair products, and your black hair. Sorry to ask,but are you relaxed or texlaxed. Nice wash day and thanks for visiting my blog

  • Congrats for making it to 6 months post chica! What have you been doing differently during this stretch vs your other stretches?

    Thanks for sharing your #washdayexperience!

    • Thanks, KLP. I’m using wigs for the most part. Also, washing in braids has made wash days so easy. 🙂

  • Good to know you have been able to stretch to 6 months. Thumbs up girl. We talked about it sometime ago. Do you intend to stretch some more or you will be applying cream cracker soon.

    • Thanks, Oyinkan. I don’t think I want to relax my hair soon. I’m still stretching it out for now.
