I’ve been away for a bit and I hope you didn’t miss me too much . I have to admit that I am a bit uninspired these days. As much as I love reading everyone’s Wash Day Experience posts, I feel that mine are a bit boring because I do the same thing almost every week. I find that when I experiment too much that it can be detrimental to my hair. What do you do to break your ‘hair rut’?
Lately, my hair is just okay. I am experiencing some slight breakage and I haven’t been able to pinpoint the reason. I suspect that I am too rough with my hair. Because of this, I am testing out some new techniques. Each time I comb my hair, I notice so much hair in the comb. I usually comb on wash days. I think my hair is breaking in the comb. I remembered a member on Hairlista, a member who used to only really detangle her hair in the shower when it was soaked with conditioner. Babilon Kay and Sista with Real Hair from YouTube also detangle in the shower with minimal shedding.
I tried detangling in the shower the last time I washed my hair and I’m happy to report that I did not lose so much hair. I also finger detangled prior to washing to remove most of the shed hair. I’m also trying to air dry without roller setting. I think the combing with the roller sets is not helping my breakage. If I’m not careful, my hair will end up one frizzy mess and hard and crunchy. I put it in 2 braids and it turned out well just that my hair wasn’t dry in the morning.
Picking a Moisturizer
I’m not sure if it’s because my hair is texlaxed but my Cantu Creamy Hair Lotion isn’t keeping my hair very moisturized anymore. The moisture doesn’t last and I definitely need to moisturize once a day with it. I decided to try using Shea Moisture Transitioning Milk to replace it. I bought this in the US when I having dryness issues and I didn’t find it spectacular. Lately, however, it’s working quite well. I find that I don’t have to moisturize everyday when I use it. My one gripe is that the milk can leave some build-up on my hair. If you follow me on the ‘gram, you may have noticed that I bought some new products.
I got a sample of HairVeda’s Red Tea Moisturizer which I just started using and so far so good. The moisture lasts for at least two days. I’m sure it would have lasted longer but I had to wash my hair. Have you tried this moisturizer?
Getting off my butt
One of the many things keeping me busy is exercising. I kept mentioning how I want to run and work out but I was never motivated to do it. All manner of excuses would pop up. This time, I needed to do something different so I’m working with a trainer. He’s really really tough. (Side note: I think burpees are tools of the devil 😈 and my trainer enjoys them.) I’m getting my money’s worth. I haven’t lost weight yet but I think I’m losing inches. Weight loss should come when I adjust my diet and possible structure my meals better.
I’m thinking about doing a hair science series about hair particularly targeted to the tropical environment that I live in. I always notice posts about North American or European environments but not too much about environments similar to our Nigerian one. If you know of any, please leave a comment below. Are there any topics that you’re interested in? I also want to redesign my blog but I have not had the time to sit down and do it. Maybe I’ll outsource it . . .
