My Edges and Nape – December Update

2014Jan-001Where did 2014 go?  I’m still doing my edge and nape challenge and I things are still going well.

Moisture: Moisturize and seal at least once per day.

I still moisturize and seal daily. Since I started the Growth Challenge 2015, I use my JBCO mix to seal and massage my temples. I also use my coconut and hemp seed oil mix to seal the length of my hair.

Protein: Layer a protein conditioner on my edges and nape before my moisturizing deep conditioner every other week.

I’m still using Profectiv Mega Growth Deep Conditioner on my ends, edges, and nape. I use it every week that I don’t do a protein treatment. The breakage that I was having has reduced.

Reduce manipulation and tension

For the past week, I’m wearing a new U-part wig. The wig keeps my hands out of my hair. I noticed some issues with demarcation line breakage. I believe the cause was over manipulation. Prior to using the wig, i would wash and co-wash my hair every week. That’s two times a week where I’m manipulating my hair. For the most part, my hair likes to be left alone. I tested this with a pin-and-tuck style. I left it installed for 2 days and my hair was still moisturized. Usually, I take it down to moisturize it but this time I didn’t .

Castor oil: Use castor oil on scalp for scalp massages at least 3 times a week, focusing on edges and nape

I’m using Lavender JBCO with peppermint, tea tree and eucalyptus essential oils on my scalp at least 3 times a week. I tend to use it on my edges more often.

Exercise and diet: Take vitamins consistently, continue Couch 2 5K program, improve diet

I still take my WellWoman Plus vitamins and biotin almost daily. I haven’t noticed any new chin hairs since last month. 🙂 I started exercising again. I got a scale and I recently go my heart rate monitor fixed. Exercising in the morning is till a challenge especially if I don’t sleep on time (because I watch too many YouTube videos 😐 ) I’ve pretty much given up on finding a place to run. My diet has improved and doing the 30 days of water challenge really contributed to it. I have more energy during the day.

My nape is still doing well. I’m really proud of how well it’s growing. My edges are okay. There’s still length retention. 🙂 It’s the longest it has been in a LONG while. I really think using the protein on those sensitive areas helps with retention. The edges haven’t disappeared. ;-D Next month, I plan to leave them out when I relax my hair. They are too fragile to take that type of treatment. Sorry for the lack of pics but I will do a full round up next month to show you how it went.
