My edges and nape – May Update

My Edge and Nape Challenge is still going strong. This is the fourth month. I am not sure I made as much progress. This is how it’s been going  for the last month.

Moisture: Moisturize and seal at least once per day.

As I mentioned last month, my hair feels a bit weighed down when I moisturize every day. I have been pretty consistent with moisturizing every other day. My ends still feel very dry. I also noticed some split ends, even though I got a trim last month. I may get another trim soon. Apart from the ends, my hair feels pretty moisturized.

Protein: Layer a protein conditioner on my edges and nape before my moisturizing deep conditioner every other week.

Based on last month’s success, I’ve used far less protein. I did the Aphogee 2 Step Protein treatment last week and I don’t plan on doing it for another 2 months or so. Since I’ve focused on moisture, I have far less breakage. I still notice some especially at the ends.

Reduce manipulation and tension

I’ve tried new version of the tuck and roll and I’m also trying braid-outs again. These styles help me reduce manipulation. I am thinking of installing a weave for the next few weeks. However, after the last experience, I may hold off a bit. Senegalese twists and Ghana weaving are calling my name but I have to resist for the sake of my edges.

Castor oil: Use castor oil on scalp for scalp massages at least 3 times a week, focusing on edges and nape

Still keeping up with this one.

Relaxer: When relaxing, I will save edges and nape for the very last step.

No relaxer this month. I won’t have to worry about this until July.

Exercise and diet: Take vitamins consistently, continue Couch 2 5K program, improve diet

I ran out of my vitamins this month. I plan to replace them or try another brand. (Any recommendations?) Hairfinity looks interesting but I’m not too sure about it. I used biotin when I started my hair journey. Biotin, the other vitamins, and my diet helped me with my journey then. Have you tried any hair vitamins? My exercise plan has been non-existent. I know the reasons why but I think I will start back with just walking at least. Hopefully, I can build from there.

My edges are coming in, albeit slowly. The hair still looks very thin but it’s not breaking off immediately. My nape is having much more improvement. Sorry for the lack of pictures, I’m having some issues with my camera.
