I made it to the third month of this challenge. I have done a bit better than last month. At least, I posted an update. 🙂 This is how it’s been going for the last month.
Moisture: Moisturize and seal at least once per day.
My hair has been out for about a month and I’ve noticed that when I moisturize every day, my hair feels a bit weighed down. I’ve taken to moisturizing every other day and really focusing on my ends. My ends feel very dry so I use olive oil to seal them. I usually use grape seed oil to seal but that is a bit light. If I use grape seed oil alone, my ends will dry out quickly.
Protein: Layer a protein conditioner on my edges and nape before my moisturizing deep conditioner every other week.
My hair was breaking so much during the last month. I received several suggestions to focus on moisture. Since following this advice, my breakage has reduced significantly. I haven’t used protein in a few weeks so I may do a protein treatment soon. For the time being, I need to reduce the protein to help add moisture and elasticity to my hair.
Reduce manipulation and tension
Since my hair has been out, I am very careful with how I treat my edges. I think I can still do better. I do use a brush on my edges from time to time. I don’t use tight buns or other hair styles lately. I’m thinking of leaving my hair out for a bit longer to help rebalance it before putting it into a protective style.
Castor oil: Use castor oil on scalp for scalp massages at least 3 times a week, focusing on edges and nape
I kept to this goal. 🙂 Check the comparison pics. Can you see a difference?
Relaxer: When relaxing, I will save edges and nape for the very last step.
The stylist that did my relaxer last week kept to this goal. Hopefully, I can continue to retain some length.
Exercise and diet: Take vitamins consistently, continue Couch 2 5K program, improve diet
I still take my vitamins at least 6 days per week. My exercise regimen has been nonexistent. I ran twice in the last month. I have no real excuse. Maybe I should use some of the Fitness Friday tips to help me get motivated. My schedule should calm down later this month so I can step up my exercise routine. I’m still drinking plenty of water but my diet is still terrible. Work has been quite busy but things should calm down soon.
Here are some comparison pics from January to April. Do you notice a difference?
How are you doing with your hair goals for 2014?
