I don’t know about you but I get bored with my hair often, especially when it’s in a protective style. So when boredom was rearing its head again, I decided to try something new by flat ironing my curly weave. I was a bit worried about doing it since it is protein hair. I saw a video from Ultima who makes Pro-10, which says that it can be flat ironed if it is on the lowest setting.[youtube http://youtu.be/EWf7S9j4VqE]
So off I went to flat iron. My hair was pretty tangled. So, I separated small sections and sprayed it lightly with water, then combed with a small-toothed comb. Plenty of hair was shed in this process. 🙁
After I combed out the section, I let it dry for a few minutes. Then, I used the flat iron on it. I did about 3 passes. My major concern was that the hair might melt or get damaged in some way but it seemed to turn out okay. It took me a while to finish. I think it was about 2 hours (I watched “Pitch Perfect” while I was doing it.)
The results were fine and it helped reduce the volume of the hair. I generally don’t care for BIG hair so this curly weave was a new thing for me. The hair has remained relatively flat since I straightened it. However, it did not get stick straight.
Have you ever tried to flat iron your synthetic hair? How were your results?
