Hairlista Castor Oil Challenge – One Month Update

Last month, Hairlista started its eight edition of the Castor Oil Challenge. I was delighted to have a chance to join this one. Here are the details about the challenge.

Start: Saturday September 28th, 2013

End: Saturday December 28th, 2013

Castor Oil Benefits:

It has germicidal, insecticidal and fungicidal properties to help protect the scalp and hair from microbial and fungal infections, the two prime causes for hair loss.

Castor oil cleans the scalp of any impurities that would inhibit maximum growth.

The fatty acids in it nourish the hair and prevent the scalp from drying by retaining moisture.

Castor Oil is a humectant and acts the same way as glycerin and honey. Humectants have the ability to draw moisture from the air.

Please Note:Any Castor oil that is NOT 100% pure is NOT acceptable for the challenge.

Challenge Details:

Basic Level:

Apply Castor oil to the scalp twice a week. Massage it in. Focus on damaged areas.

Intermediate Level:

Apply Castor oil to the scalp 3 times a week. Massage it in. Focus on damaged areas.

Advance Level:

Apply Castor oil to your scalp every other day. Use sparingly. Massage it in. Focus on Damaged areas.

Apply 1 tsp of castor oil to your deep conditioner weekly with heat. Rinse thoroughly.

Ultimate Level *New*

Apply Castor oil to your scalp every other day. Use sparingly. Massage it in. Focus on Damaged areas.

Apply 1 tsp of castor oil to your deep conditioner weekly with heat. Rinse thoroughly.

Seal your ends with a Castor oil after you moisturize your hair (or mix it in with your usual sealant). Use sparingly.

IMPORTANT: Before and After comparison photos are imperative as there will be a selected winner at the end of the challenge with the most improved hair i.e. increased thickness, length etc.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! HAVE FUN 🙂

I joined at the Advance Level and I’ve been using Tropical Isle Living Jamaican Black Castor Oil for the scalp massages and regular castor oil (from Vanity Oils). So far, the challenge has gone well. I’ve had a tough time remembering when to do the scalp massages. For month 2, I will use my Evernote to track when I do the scalp massages. This will be a record and an accountability method. My hair feels quite soft, especially my new growth. My hair seems to retain moisture better as well. I will do a length check at the end of the challenge. So far so good!

Have you done a castor oil challenge before? How did it go?
